Throw Down Your Arms is Sinéad O'Connor's seventh studio album, and her first reggae album. O'Connor sings cover versions of classic roots reggae songs, with production by Sly and Robbie. The album was recorded in Kingston, Jamaica at Tuff Gong Studios and Anchor Studios in 2004. Chocolate and Vanilla published the album on 4 October 2005, 42 years after the speech of Haile Selassie to the United Nations (4 October 1963). The release date fell on Rosh Hashanah, and was also the day after the Solar eclipse of 3 October 2005. The album sold over 250,000 copies worldwide; 10% of the profits support Rastafari elders in Jamaica. The album sleeve was designed by evidentlydesign.com.
